Went for a Japanese straight perm with Rei, who did an amazing job! I've been getting Japanese straight perms for many years now, but this is the best to date. Rei did an initial assessment of my hair and asked a handful of questions about my hair history, was knowledgeable and super sweet, and totally transformed my very wavy/frizzy hair. My hair now feels smooth, healthier from the deep conditioning after the perm, and super smooth. We'll see how long this perm lasts for me, but I know I'll be going back to Rei for my touch ups! UPDATE (2/25/2026) - Came back to provide an update that the quality of service provided by Rei is still top notch! I went in for a touch up for my Japanese straight perm and walked out feeling very satisfied with how straight and healthy my hair feels. The whole process was smooth and painless. Rei took the time to understand how my perm held up and what hair style I wanted to leave with today. She walked me through each step of the process and what to expect next. In my decade of getting Japanese straight perms, the ones at T-Gardens have been the best and longest lasting. Suzu is fantastic! The haircut comes with a relaxing wash and styling, and I look forward to seeing her for more complex services. I was nervous going to a new stylist, but Suzu intuited what I wanted from only one reference photo and really understood how to shape and layer my fine, thick Asian hair. Several months ago I asked for a short bob haircut, and showed the stylist the picture below. I think he did a good job at cutting my hair with a side view that quite looks like the picture, though probably a bit shorter. However, from the front my hair looked so short. More than one person couldn't even tell whether I was a girl or a boy -- I don't know if everyone who wears this style and doesn't put on makeup will look this way, or if there is something that could be improved with the haircut he gave me. The stylist did a decent job at following my wishes, but it would be great if he could explain the consequences of getting this haircut (if looking androgynous is expected) and offer advice. update: I went to T-Gardens again and got my haircut by Min (last time it wasn't her). Went in today with the hopes of getting the right curls and a good haircut, and Leo absolutely met my expectations. I booked a last minute cold perm with Suzu on Christmas Eve, she was patient and understanding of the style I wanted (more curly/wavy than the perms I had gotten before) and I love the results!
